Michael Murphy Discusses His Career.

Actor Michael Murphy. Murphy's first work was on television when he was still a high school English teacher. He debuted on the TV series "Combat," and later acted on "Ben Casey," "Dr. Kildaire" and "Bonanza." The director for the "Combat" series was Robert Altman, with whom Murphy has had a long association. He later acted in many films by Robert Altman, including "M*A*S*H," "Brewster McCloud," "McCabe and Mrs. Miller" and "Nashville." Last year, Murphy starred as Jack Tanner in "Tanner`88," a darkly comic TV series about a long-shot candidate's quest for the 1988 Presidential nomination. Murphy's best-known role was as Diane Keaton's lover and Woody Allen's romantic foil in "Manhattan." His latest project is the HBO movie "Tailspin" about the downing of the Korean jetliner 007 by the Russians, and "Shocker," a thriller by horror film director Wes Craven due for release later this fall.
