From the Archives: A Rabbi Leads Conversations about the Ethics of Genesis.

Rabbi Burton Visotzky of the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York City. Since 1987 he's led seminars on the Book of Genesis. The seminars gained a following. Novelists, poets, editors, filmmakers, CEOs, and attorneys attended the sessions to understand the relevance of Genesis to modern life. The New York Times described the seminarv as "the best conversations in New York City." Bill Moyers did a 10-part PBS series on Visotzky's seminar. Visotzky's book is "The Genesis of Ethics: How the Tormented Family of Genesis Leads Us to Moral Development." (Crown Publishers).(REBROADCAST from 10/23/96)

From the Archives: "Riding the Rails" During the Great Depression.

Two people who as teenagers left home and road trains during The Great Depression: Jim Mitchell and Peggy DeHart are both featured in Michael Uyes film "Riding The Rails". Mitchell was 16 years old in 1933 when he first jumped a train. DeHart was 15 in 1938. The documentary "Riding The Rails" will be featured on PBS Monday night as part of The American Experience series. (REBROADCAST from 9/2/97)

Biblical theologian Rabbi Burton Visotzky teaches at the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York City. He's best known for his Genesis seminars, attended by novelists, poets, editors, filmmakers, CEOs, and attorneys to understand the relevance of Genesis to modern life. It became the basis of a 10-part PBS series in 1996. He is also the author of The Road To Redemption: Lessons from Exodus on Leadership and Community.

Screenwriters RASHIDA JONES and WILL MCCORMACK. They're the writing team behind the new film The Invite, directed by Olivia Wilde and starring Seth Rogen, Penélope Cruz, and Edward Norton. They've been creative partners for more than two decades, first as co-writers of Celeste and Jesse Forever. JONES is an actor, writer, producer, and director. She won a Grammy for co-directing the documentary Quincy, about her father, Quincy Jones, and recently earned an Emmy nomination for her performance in Black Mirror. MCCORMACK is an Academy Award-winning writer, director, and actor.

Remembering music theater historian Robert Kimball

(1.) ROBERT KIMBALL, the musical historian who rediscovered and rescued music and manuscripts by George Gershwin, Cole Porter, and others – and who co-wrote important books about George and Ira Gershwin, Cole Porter, and Eubie Blake – died last week, at the age of 86. He was the artistic advisor to the Cole Porter and Ira Gershwin estates.
