From the Archives: Actor Nathan Lane.

Actor Nathan Lane. He's currently in the film "The Bird Cage." He played Nathan Detroit in the Broadway revival of "Guys and Dolls." Playwright Terrance McNally has written roles for LANE and says, "I need an actor like Nathan to fully express myself. I can't do it with just the words. I need his faces and gestures to finish the sentence." Lane starred in McNally's "The Lisbon Traviata," and in "Lips Together, Teeth Apart." He also was in the films "Frankie and Johnny," (as Michelle Pfeiffer's neighbor -- a part McNally wrote for him), in "Life with Mikey," (co-starring with Michael J. Fox), and has a cameo in "Adams Family Values." (Rebroadcast. Originally aired 1/3/94.)

A concert and interview with Shirley Horn. Playing with her will be drummer Steve Williams and bassist Charles Ables. Horn recorded with Miles Davis and Quincy Jones in the 1960s and sang on the movie soundtrack of "For Love of Ivy." After a hiatus in which she stayed home and raised her daughter, she returned to performing and recording in 1988. Joining Horn are bassist Charles Ables and drummer Steve Williams. Her latest album is "The Main Ingredient" (on Verve). (REBROADCAST. Originally aired 6/29/92).

Screenwriters RASHIDA JONES and WILL MCCORMACK. They're the writing team behind the new film The Invite, directed by Olivia Wilde and starring Seth Rogen, Penélope Cruz, and Edward Norton. They've been creative partners for more than two decades, first as co-writers of Celeste and Jesse Forever. JONES is an actor, writer, producer, and director. She won a Grammy for co-directing the documentary Quincy, about her father, Quincy Jones, and recently earned an Emmy nomination for her performance in Black Mirror. MCCORMACK is an Academy Award-winning writer, director, and actor.

Remembering music theater historian Robert Kimball

ROBERT KIMBALL, the musical historian who rediscovered and rescued music and manuscripts by George Gershwin, Cole Porter, and others – and who co-wrote important books about George and Ira Gershwin, Cole Porter, and Eubie Blake – died last week, at the age of 86. He was the artistic advisor to the Cole Porter and Ira Gershwin estates.
