Carl Reiner

We listen to archival interviews with Reiner, who died June 29; with Mary Tyler Moore, who worked with Reiner on The Dick Van Dyke Show; and with Mel Brooks, a longtime friend and collaborator.

Reiner is a prolific director of comedy films. A frequent collaborator with Mel Brooks, he started in the theater and later television, where he began his career as a writer on the program Your Show of Shows. His latest movie, inspired by classic Hollywood musicals, is called Bert Rigby, You're a Fool.

In 1984, the groundbreaking mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap lampooned heavy metal bands and rock documentaries — and introduced audiences to a new film genre. Now, in the sequel Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, the band returns for a reunion concert.
