'Monk' returns for one 'Last Case' and it's a heaping serving of TV comfort food

From 2002 to 2009, actor Tony Shalhoub starred on the USA Network series "Monk," playing Adrian Monk, a crime-solving detective with obsessive compulsive disorder. Now, after almost 15 years, Shalhoub and most of his original castmates are back in a new movie streaming on Peacock. It's called "Mr. Monk's Last Case." Our TV critic David Bianculli has this review.

'All the Light We Cannot See' is a heartening and hopeful wartime tale

"All The Light We Cannot See," the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Anthony Doerr, has been adapted into a new four-part miniseries premiering today on Netflix. The story takes place in the years before and during the Nazi occupation of France in World War II and features Mark Ruffalo and Hugh Laurie as its most recognizable stars. But our TV critic David Bianculli says that the lesser-known younger actors are equally worthy of attention.

Cozy up in Tokyo's 'Midnight Diner' for the TV version of comfort food

Midnight Diner" is a Japanese TV series about a diner located on a quiet side street in one of Tokyo's busiest districts. Although the show has been running on Netflix for several years, our critic-at-large, John Powers, keeps rewatching old episodes. He says the show creates a mood that keeps calling the viewer back.
