Good TV seems to be coming at us in increasingly large quantities and from so many different directions. Just last month, two major services — Apple TV+ and Disney+ — launched, joining the crowded field of streaming services. All this added up to a great year for quality television. Here's a list of my favorite shows of 2019.

Not surprisingly, Disney+ streaming service offers an array of Disney, Marvel, Pixar and Star Wars features. What's less expected — and maybe even more welcome — is its menu of new programming.

None of the new shows available on Apple's new streaming service seem like hits — though "For All Mankind" might get there. But all is not bleak; Apple plans to add new titles each month.

The original Veronica Mars premiered on television 15 years ago, which, in TV terms, was a whole different era. David Milch's HBO series Deadwood, which just reunited its cast for a fabulous TV movie, premiered that year. So did two major hits for ABC, Lost and Desperate Housewives. And 2004 also brought us the premiere of NBC's The Apprentice.
