Actor Peter Fonda, Headed West to 'Yuma'

Actor Peter Fonda is probably best known for his role in the cult-classic road movie Easy Rider. His new picture, 3:10 to Yuma, is a Western — a remake of the 1957 film. Fonda, son of actor Henry Fonda, is author of the memoir Don't Tell Dad.


Investigating a New Virus in the Southwest

Robert Shope, Co-chair of the Committee on Emerging Microbial Threats to Health. Shope is also a physician and professor of epidemiology at the Yale University School of Medicine, and was part of the team that identifyied the virus that caused Lyme disease. Terry will talk with him about a new virus strain discovered in the Southwest.

Mystery novelist Tony Hillerman's books feature Navajo detectives in the American Southwest, and are informed by that tribe's religious practices. He's not Indian himself, but grew up in their communities.

Steven Feld is a ethnomusicologist who teaches sound communication at the University of Pennsylvania. Ethnomusicology combines anthropology and music theory, and attempts to learn about culture through music. Feld is also a jazz musician who has incorporated the genre into his work. His work has taken him to Papua New Guinea, where he studied the Kaluli tribe, and the Southwestern United States. He joins the show to discuss his work. (INTERVIEW BY DANNY MILLER.)
